LYA to launch new Luminaire Range for
Mental Healthcare

This will be an expansion to our existing range of specialist custodial lighting products that will address the specific lighting requirements for medium and acute mental health hospitals. This initiative by LYA is in the absence of any defined standards or guidelines from the Department of Health or NHS Estates, and will be offered as a help to Estates & Facility Managers from a company with 10 years experience of lighting secure areas where risks of self-harm to patients and violence to staff are prevalent.

Issues surrounding this market sector are familiar to LYA in as much as consideration must be given to the built environment for vulnerable and sometimes violent patients but at the same time recognising the need to avoid the more institutionalised designs required by Home Office and Ministry of Justice custodial facilities.

Particular efforts are being made to offer a range that is not only safe in terms of ligature risks, but also pleasing to the eye and innovative in respect of maintenance and energy costs. The use of LED technology is a high priority, and the high quality and extended product guarantees associated with LYA products will be in evidence. The range is currently under design and expected to be available for purchase by summer 2010.
