| Working closely with Suffolk County Council's Chief Energy Officer David Richardson, ROTALUX was chosen for a pilot project to relight a teaching block at one of the county's largest comprehensive schools, with a view to improving energy efficiency as well as lighting quality.
Their Requirements:
The Chantry High School uses the top floor of a 1960's block as a languages teaching area. Still lit with tungsten lighting, which was not only unsightly but also extremely energy inefficient, the energy costs were forming a large part of the school's budget. The Pilot Scheme was set up to monitor the energy savings of the ROTALUX installation by comparison with that on the floor below.
ROTALUX Design Solution:
ROTALUX with 350 degree Rotation provides flexibility, allowing teaching rooms to be used for a variety of activities including VDU, display or multi-media. The tough polycarbonate sealed lens system and high quality aluminium body provide a robust product, which allows safe maintenance away from teaching areas. A TWO-YEAR Replacement Guarantee ensures value for the Education budget.
The classroom areas were lit with 58 watt high frequency, wide angle luminaires, initially in the down-light position: lights adjacent to the windows incorporated daylight linking as a trial using Tridonic's new probe system - at the cutting edge of this technology. Integral auto-test emergency packs in the units lighting the corridors and stairwells ensured maximum safety for pupils and staff whilst maintaining the aesthetics of the building.
The Head Teacher's Response:
Work was carried out quickly and with minimum disruption to the work of the school.
We are delighted with the results - the new lights are aesthetically pleasing, and have made a real difference to the teaching environment.
Just as important, perhaps even more so, is the energy savings - specially installed meters have shown us that the new lights are using 1/4 of the electricity of the previous ones.
They really will be worth their weight in Gold!
I wish to volunteer for ROTALUX installations in the rest of the school, please!
The Chief Energy Officer;
As part of Suffolk County Council's commitment to setting an energy efficiency standard for our schools, we have been pleased to work with ROTALUX, and have been impressed with the reduction in lighting loads achieved at Chantry High - other projects for Suffolk Schools are awaiting installation. |
